Karen Collins Artist painter of nature

"Capturing landscapes with oil paint"

"I have always loved and been inspired by nature, whether it be a cool, damp rainforest, a searing hot Aussie beach in mid-summer, a lush French vineyard or a massive Mountain Gorilla in Burundi.

Throughout my adult life, I have been extremely lucky and privileged to have traveled extensively and I have collected many images in my head and camera from all over the world. These provide me with an almost unlimited supply of inspiration with which to create my oil paintings. Painting these images is a wonderful opportunity to re-live those life experiences, to share them with anyone who cares to view my paintings and, perhaps, become a reminder for future generations of how beautiful our world is now."

As well as painting, Karen also manages ART ST which she founded in 2013. ART ST helps to promote Brisbane Artists and their art and has facilitated the sale of many paintings to art collectors in Brisbane, interstate and overseas.

Karen has attended many and varied art workshops including portaiture with Daniel Butterworth and, separately, Seabastian toast, tutored and untutored Life Drawing at Bienarte (formerly Brisbane Painting Classes), Royal Qld Art Society and Victorian Artists Society; Abstracts Florals Workshop with Seabastian Toast; Oil Masterclasses with John Wilson; painting, drawing and studio painting at The Brisbane Institute of Art.

No matter what the class, Karen believes there is always something new to learn, something old to master and tips and tricks to pick up! You should never stop learning!

Karen is a member of the Royal Qld Art Society and QAGOMA. She regularly exhibits in group art exhibitions held in Brisbane and interstate and is currently working towards a solo exhibition which will feature her Australian Landscape paintings.
